So what did we do today...
PreAP World: Make sure EQ 1 on the Late Middle Ages is completed for next class. Also, during break, it would be a great idea to take some time and organize your binder. SOL's start May 15th and we will be reviewing before then. It would help if you can find things in it.
Have a good spring break. If you need the form, it is located in files and documents in the Late Middle Ages Folder.
World I: Make sure your map is done. Your vocab for the late middle ages is due on the Friday that we return after break. You may want to work ahead. World History I: Review on Monday for Standard 9 Dark Ages. Assessment is on Wednesday.
PreAP World: Review is on Tues/Wed. for the Dark Ages. Assessment is on Thurs/Fri.
ALL classes: Timeline activity is due by the end of the week.
Even Blocks will test on the Islamic World on Wednesday 3/8 Odd Blocks test on Thursday 3/9.
PreAP World I: Islamic World EQ 1 is due on Wednesday/Thursday.
World I: Vocab is due on Thursday 2/23 There will be a small open note matching quiz on it.
Announcement: Students will be reviewing for their test on Monday and Tuesday this coming week. For any students who are not in class, the study guide is located in our files and documents folder for Byzantines. If you have any questions come see me BEFORE your test on Wendesday/Thursday.
Wednesday/Thursday 2/1-2 PreAP World: EQ 1 quiz was taken. Students worked cooperatively to answer questions based on documents about Justinian's reign. They then crafted a thesis on one of two prompts on Justinian. EQ2 due for next time.
Thursday 2/1 World I: Vocab quiz was today. We then took notes on Justinian's reign and answer doc. based questions on him.
Friday 1/27 or Tuesday 1/31 PreAP World: We went over our maps of the Byzantine Empire, students analyzed a document on the location and founding of Constantinople noting its strategic place not only in the empire itself, but in a larger global context as well.
Students analyzed a video on some major Byzantine contributions including the city walls, aqueducts/underground storage, the Hippodrome, and the Hagia Sophia -- EQ1 will be due on Wed/Thurs.
Tuesday 1/31 World History I: We took discussion notes on the founding of the Byzantine Empire and analyzed maps of the city of Constantinople. Vocabulary was due. Students took a quiz on it (open - note) and turned in their vocab.
Saturday 1/28 - PreAP World - Byzantine Playlist is uploaded. EQ 1 due on Wednesday for blocks 4,6, Thursday for blocks 3,7.
Wednesday/Thursday 1-25/26 PreAP World: We took the Roman World Assessment.
Thursday 1/26 World History I: We went over our maps of the Byzantines, we introduced some major architectural features and their backgrounds of the city of Constantinople. Vocab is due next class.
Monday/Tuesday PreAP World 1/23-24: Review day for the Roman World Assessment. Test next class.
Tuesday World History I 1/24: Test day on the Roman World. Work on your map and vocab for the Byzantines as homework.
Wednesday 1/18 or Thursday 1/19 PreAP World:
Today we looked at the reigns of Emperors Diocletian, Constantine, and Theodocius. Students completed a table on the some of the major contributions of the Roman Empire. We then analyzed secondary sources on reasons for the decline of the Western Roman Empire and students constructed a thesis statement on it.
Thursday 1/19 World History I: Students rec'd there review guide on Rome and we worked on it together in class. Anything remaining undone should be completed for next class. Rome Assessment is scheduled for next class.
Friday 1/14 or Tuesday 1/17 PreAP World - Students answered a prompt based on EQ 6. We then looked at how the Roman government responded to the rise of Christianity and why. EQ 7 - the Late Roman Empire is up next.
Tuesday World History I - We added a few notes on invasions of Rome to add to our prior discussion on the fall of the Western Roman Empire. We looked at major Roman Contributions and did an analysis activity on the Pantheon.
Wednesday/ Thursday PreAP World 1/12-13 - EQ 5 quiz was taken. We analyzed documents in order to draw some coonclusions on whether or not is was beneficial or a drawback to be a province of Rome during the Pax Romana based on the evidence provided.
EQ 6 for next time.
Thursday World History I: We looked at the reigns of Diocletian, Constantine, and Theodocius paying particular attention on their specific responses to the rise of Christianity. Students analyzed primary and secondary sources on the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
Monday/Tuesday 1/10-11 We have worked up through EQ4 We spent a day looking at Julius Caesar and a day on Augustus Caesar. We also reviewed the major religions and philosophies of the ancient world we have studied so far. EQ 5 due next class.
World History I: We have looked at the Pax Romana and the rise of christianity. Students turned in their homework on Augustus Caesar today.
Tuesday/Wednesday 1/3/4/17 PreAP World: Students took the EQ3 quiz. We updated our Roman Timeline and discussed a reading on Roman Imperial Expansion and tax collection. EQ4 due next class.
Wednesday 1/4/17 World History I: Students completed a review of the Roman Republic and we did Discussion Notes on the Punic Wars and completed an inclass reading guide on Roman Expansion.
Tuesday/Wednesday 12/20, 12/21 - Students took the EQ2 quiz. We then discussed slavery and the Spartacus revolt. EQ3 for next time.
World History Wednesday 12/21 - We discussed similarities and differences between the Roma Republic and modern America. We had some discussion notes on the mythology and Roman expansion.
Friday 12/16 or Monday 12/19 PreAP World: Students took the Rome eq1 quiz. We then analyzed some Roman curse tablets to draw some conclusions about the role of the mythology in society. We then focused our attention on comparing the Roman Republic system of government to the United States and students answered questions on the 12 Tables (basis of Roman law). Homework: EQ2 for next time.
World I on Monday 12/19: Students took an open note vocab assessment and turned in their Rome vocabulary. We then discussed the early history and geography of the Roman Republic. Students completed an activity on Roman law codes.
Wednesday/Thursday 12/14 or 12/15: Today we took our tests on pt 2 of Ancient greece. Students are to finish their map for homework PreAP: Do EQ1 for next class. world history I: complete the map and vocab There is an open hw quiz on the vocab.
PreAP World: Students turned in their essay on Athens and Sparta on Friday 12/9 or Monday 12/12.
Wednesday/Thursday PreAP World: Today we took the Greece, standard 5 assessment pt. 1 and started outlining an essay together on Athens and Sparta. EQ5 is due for homework next class.
Thursday World History I: Today we took the Greece Standard 5 assessment pt. 1. Students had the remainder of the block to work on vocab words 19-35. There will be an open homework matching assessment on those words on Monday.
Monday/Tuesday 11/28/29 Pre AP World I and World History I:
We reviewed Ancient Greece. Students rec'd format and main topics for the test. Test is next class (Wed or Thurs).
Before Thanksgiving break: All classes will be finishing up the Persian Wars and discussing the development of Greek Philosophy.
Happy Thanksgiving. After break we will review our first class back and then have an assessment on Greece the following class (wednesday or thursday).
Wednesday/Thursday 11/9, 11/10 PreAP World: We looked at the development of the polis system through three different primary sources (Aristotle, Pericles and Plutarch). 3rd and 7th - make sure EQ3 is due for Monday. 4th and 6th make sure EQ 4 is due for Tuesday, for 3rd and 7th it is due on Wednesday.
World I: 11/9 - vocab 1-18 was turned in. We did some discussion notes on the social structure of Greece and the Minoans and Mycenaeans.
Tuesday and Wednesday 11/1 or 11/2 PreAP World: We looked at two selections from the Homeric Epics of the Iliad and the Odyssey. Maps were checked. Students were given a note organizer for their unit on Greece. We then showed them how to access the necessary videos on my youtube page. EQ 2 is due for next class.
Wednesday 11/2 World History I: We checked the maps and students answered a video analysis on Ancient Greece. Vocab 1-18 is due on Wednesday.
Thursday/Friday 10/10-21 PreAP World: We have begun our review for Unit 2: Near and Far Eastern Empires. 40 mc questions. Short Answer and Thesis/introduction as well. Posted in files and documents in the PreAP folder and unit 2 'Eastern Empires' subfolder is a copy of the document that will serve as the basis for the short answer section. Please feel free to view,print, review at your discretion. Test is scheduled for Wedensday/Thursday of this week.
World History I update: Students have rec'd their quarter I review and we are working both in and out of class to complete it. The Quarter exam will be on Monday Oct. 31st.
Friday/Monday 10/14-17 PreAP World:
HW-reading questions 23-27 were collected. Discussion notes on Qin and Han. We then looked at 6 docs on wall construction in both of these dynasties. If NOT finished, they need to be finished before next class.
Monday 10/17 World History I: Students sat for the unit assessment on Persia, India and China. Students rec'd their Quarter I review packet. Specific parts of it will be due on Wednesday and there will be a quiz based on the review.
Wednesday/Thursday 10/12/13 PreAP World:
Students turned in their reading questions 9-22 and took a small reading quiz on the material. We focused our attention on the Mauryan and Gupta Empires of India. Students got a head start on the reading to be completed next class (23-27).
Thursday World I: We reviewed for the assessment on Persia, India and China. Students rec'd a study guide to complete for next time if not already finished in class.
Friday 10/7 or Tuesday 10/11 PreAP World:
Map quiz on unit 2 to start the class. Scores look great overall so far. We discussed Persia in depth and students analyzed three documents--all on Cyrus. We looked at common themes throughout each. Homework Due next class: unit 2 G.R. 9-22
Tuesday 10/11 World I: India warm-up quiz (formative). Qin and Han empires GO. 4 documents on the benefits and drawbacks to the Great Wall.
Wednesday/Thursday 10/5/6 PreAP World:
RG 1-8 was due. Small reading quiz on it. Warm-up on Cyrus' toleration and the Royal Road. Students then rec'd back their written portion of the unit 1 exam. Students rec'd the score they had on it and were allowed (open note/binder) to make any changes/edits they wanted to and to resubmit for full credit on the exam.
Thursday World I 10/6: We focused our attention on the Mauryan and Gupta empires of India. For homework, if not completed in class, a reading guide on Chapter 7 section 1 and two documents on ancient India.
Monday/Tuesday 10/3/4 PreAP World
We looked at a primary source from Herodotus (Greek) on the ancient customs/traditions of the Persians. Students analyzed the document for content AND we introduced our HIPPO method of analyzing sources. Homework: Due next class are questions 1-8 of the guided reading.
Tuesday 10/4 World History I
Students completed a warm up map activity on the Persian Empire, we discussed Persia and Zoroastrianism. Students then completed a Venn diagram and analyzed sources on Cyrus and Darius.
Thursday/Friday 9/29/30 PreAP
We took the Unit 1 Assessment today. Students picked up their maps, I Can's, Reading Questions (and the reading itself) after the test. The MAP and map only is due for next class. Reading guide questions 1-8 will be due on Wednesday/Thursday of next week.
Friday 9/30 World I
Students took their assessment on Early River Valley Civilizations. They rec'd the map for the next unit. It is due next class if they have not completed it in class already.
Tuesday/Wednesday 9/27/28 PreAP
We practiced thesis writing and reviewed for our test next class. We went over the format and expectations as well. Posted in our Unit 1 folder is a condensed form of the activity we did in class as well as a study guide. The study guide is optional for PreAP. Remember to go through your I Can statements.
World I - We reviewed for the test. Students worked on graphic organizers and the study guide. The study guide is due for a grade on Friday. We also played a challenging game of kahoot to help review. Test on Friday. The study guide can be found in our files.
Friday/Monday 9/26 PreAP - We summarized the major tenets of the Nubians and Phoenicians. Students then read on the Hebrew Civlization.
PreAP Wednesday/Thursday -
We looked at Ancient China and studied the philosophies of Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism. Students analyzed excerpts to determine which passages were either Confucianism or Daoism.
World I - We looked at Hinduism and Buddhism and the differences between the two. We constructed Venn Diagrams on Hinduism/Buddhism and Confucianism/Daoism.
Monday 9/19/Tuesday 9/20: PreAP World
Students turned in the reading on introducing Hinduism and Buddhism. We then updated our timelines for Unit 1.
Students worked in cooperative groups of 3 or 4 to analyze a set of documents and answer questions on them. They then had to construct a thesis for a possible essay prompt and group those documents according to their three arguments contained in their thesis. We will finish this up in the first 10-15 minutes of class next time.
Tuesday 9/20: World History I
Students turned in their homework on Hinduism and Buddhism. We then examined Ancient China and students worked to completed an organizer on all 4 of our major river valley civilizations. There will be a small summative assessment (quiz) on the 4 river valleys at the beginning of class on Thursday.
Thursday 9/15 or Friday 9/16
Students turned in their reading guide that was due and took a summ2 reading quiz on it. We then discussed the Indus Civilization and completed an introductory reading on Hinduism.
Tuesday 9/13 or Wednesday 9/14: PreAP World History
Students completed a warmup activity analyzing two primary sources on Egypt. We then discussed and practice how to form an introduction/thesis for an essay.
Homework Due Next Class: GR #'s 18-25, there will be a small reading quiz as well.
Wednesday 9/14: World History I
Today we took a small assessment on Paleo/Neolithic Ages, Egypt, and Mesopotamia. Students were assigned a guided reading for chapter 2 sections 3/4 that is due next class (Friday).
Friday 9/9 or Monday 9/12: PreAP World
Students turned in their hw reading guide (1-17) and took a small assessment on the material. We wrapped up discussing our documents on Mesopotamia and began discussing Egypt. We will finish up Egypt's river valley civilization next class and students will compare the two river valleys.
Monday 9/12: World History I
Students completed a warm-up activity analyzing a map of the Nile River Delta. We then discussed Ancient Egypt's social structure, politics/history, religion, and highlighted some major accomplishments.
NEXT CLASS: 1st and 5th block on Wednesday will have a quiz on the Paleolithic Era, Neolithic Era, Mesopotamia and Egypt. Look over your discussion notes and reading on those topics.
Wednesday 9/6 or Thursday 9/7: PreAP World
We focused our attention on Ancient Mesopotamia. Students worked in small cooperative groups to analysis Primary sources including excerpts of the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hammurabi's Law Code, Akkadian Clay tablets, and a Hymn to the Sun God - Shamash to gain more in-depth knowledge on how the physical geography helped to influence the cultural, political, religious, and economic/social systems common to the region during the Bronze Age. Remember: Reading Questions 1-17 due next class (Friday for EVEN, Monday for ODD). Small assessment on the reading after it is turned in.
Thursday 9/7: World History I
Today, students turned in their homework reading on Chpt 2 sections 1,2. We focused on ancient Mesopotamia. Students worked in pairs and looked at excerpts of Hammurabi's Law Code and a secondary source on ziggurats.
Friday 9/2 or Tuesday 9/6: PreAP World
Today, our completed Unit 1 Maps were due. Students had the first couple minutes to ask any questions on them before they turned them in. We then discussed the Neolithic Revolution and students rec'd their guided reading (and the AP reading itself) on ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. #'s 1-17 are due two classes from now (Friday 9/9 or Monday 9/12). There will be a summ2 assessment on it.
Tuesday 9/6: World History I
Today, our completed Unit 1 Maps were due. Students had the first couple minutes to ask any questions on them before they turned them in. We then discussed the Neolithic Revolution and did a small in-class activity on Catal Huyuk. Then students rec'd their guided reading out of the textbook on Chapter 2 sec1 and 2.
